PREO 2019

In partnership with the Pampanga Research Educators Organization, the Don Honorio Ventura State University co-hosted the 2019 PREO International Research Conference (PREO-IRC) on May 24-26, 2019, held at the DHVSU Bacolor campus.

This year’s Conference, with the theme “Humanizing Pedagogical Practices through Borderless Education: The Key to Knowledge Development and Collaboration,” highlighted the need to fulfill the current need for collaboration and alliance between and among different disciplines to generate new knowledge, since this is considered to be the ultimate key to address various societal dilemmas.  The conference’s main goal, according to PREO’s press release, is to enrich the research culture among academic institutions in the Philippines and to be updated with the recent developments in research.

Two plenary speakers were invited to spearhead the event. First is Dr. Hendrati Dwi Mulyaningsih, SE, MM, founder and chair of Research Synergy Foundation, an international research organization based in Indonesia. Aside from being a researcher, speaker and published scholar, she is also a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration in Telkom University in Bandung, Indonesia.

The second plenary speaker is Dr. John Paolo R. Rivera, Associate Director of the Asian Institute of Management’s Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism. Aside from being a published researcher specializing in Applied Econometrics, Economic Development, and Tourism Development, Dr. Rivera is also a consultant at the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Inc. and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia.

A total of 78 papers were lined up to be presented in nine plenary sessions spread over the three-day conference, which was attended by participants from various schools and institutions. The presentations were selected from various submissions by academicians in the country.

In line with the conference’s objectives, a message from DHVSU President Mr. Enrique G. Baking, Ph. D., reads, “We, as an institution, must make it our social responsibility to make sure that man and his nature are nurtured and cultured in a way where life is valued with the highest regard […] through our researches.”

Moreover, Mr. Ethelbert P. Dapiton, Ph. D., Chairman of the PREO’s Board of Trustees, stated that the Conference “will be of great opportunity to gain and renew friendships in research and academic world, extend and develop networks and more importantly explore opportunities for future research collaborations that transcend the limits of institutions’ walls as well as nations’ boundaries.”

The 2019 PREO-IRC was officially endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education.
